Next up

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory review by Tuesday. Hey, maybe Gabe can review this one too, if he has time. Gabe's actually read the book (a childhood fave), so he could offer an experienced viewpoint on this movie.

The Subject will hopefully be done by the end of the week...if not it will be around next weekend or so. We gotta pick music, add the sound, get the credits (there are a lot of people to thank this time around) and get it trimmed down to about 3 minutes for the short cut. (The director's cut won't be a whole lot longer...3:50, tops).

I'll try to put up a review. There are many things I've wanted to review but haven't had the time to.

I haven't read the book since grade school. I don't remember it enough to draw any comparisons. Perhaps I'll pick it up and read it again, though. That way Zoe can read it when she gets old enough.

One warning for you:

"Don't touch the squirrel's nuts."

Great movie.

That may have been the single best line. Great, great movie. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Deep Roy is the star of the film, and he will be appearing in the next Matter of Chance production as young Castro. No, wait, that's Gabe's role. We'll have to find something else for him.

We need to develop an entire short film around Deep Roy.

It really was fantastic. Of course, the question is which is better? The original or the update? They will be forever linked and compared. I want to lean towards "Charlie," but that might just be because I haven't seen "Willie" in so long.

Who is Deep Roy?

He's THE Oompa Loompa, as all the rest were CGI copies of him. Correct?

Actually, there was very little CG. He actually acted out the parts hundreds of times, and they composited it. So, it was very realistic (as realistic as this thing could be), and it wasn't just a replicated single shot, or a bunch of CG guys. It was pretty sweet. Burton went all out. I mean, c'mon, trained squirrels?! OK, some of the squirrels we CG, but not the close ups.
