Gud Lookn'

Ebert and Roper are weird; I just can’t seem to understand their critical system. There are most reviewers and critics that have a certain pattern to the films they like and the films they don’t like. Some review on the basis of good story, others on the basis of good action, and some on a little bit of both. But I can’t seem to put my finger on their critical style…

Personally, I didn’t think that Daredevil was the better then Spider-Man, let alone the best comic book movie since the first two Batman films. (I always gave that distinction to Unbreakable) I’ll have to listen to that review, I haven’t really heard it aside from the comments you’ve told me about.

I think for me X-men looks good because I was so let down on the first Hulk preview. Maybe the Hulk will turn out to be all right, and maybe the effects will improve from the space of now to May, but I’m not going to over anticipate anything. Besides, X-men, Hulk or whatever, we all know what the real heavy hitter is going to be this year.

Enjoy your trip man; I’ll see you soon!

Ok, at this point and time I’d like to try a bit of a segment that I’d like to make a weekly event. Basically, I’ll list the top five albums I’ve been listening to for the last week. Maybe you can gauge what sort of a mood I’ve been in based upon this list, but at least it’ll give you perspective into what’s been in rotation.

See you folks later!

X Factor

Maybe it's the recent flood of super hero movies, but the latest X-Men 2 trailer did not get me excited. The very first one I saw did. That doesn't mean I'll enjoy the movie, though. Brock, did you see, or hear, Ebert and Roeper's review of Daredevil?? Two thumbs up and they both liked it better than Spider-Man! I didn't expect them to like it at all. Listen to their review here. I agree that it was darker and not as "flashy" as Spider-Man, but I don't think it's "the best comic book adaptation since the first two Batman films" as Roeper says.

Tomorrow I fly out to New Orleans. To attend the drunken, boob-flashin' Mardi Gras you ask? Nope. I bought a car over Ebay and it's in Mississippi. I'll be back Monday night. Until then, have a great weekend!

Woo hoo!

And such...

The Meanest Guitar player was pretty much a mild reference to your guitarplaying, and also I figured I'd hype our reputation up a bit. For that matter, I don't know a whole lot of guitar players around these parts, so you fit the bill...heh heh.

Dear lord, tell me about all of the blogs. And most of them rant and rave about stuff I don't even care about...(We'll be different, we'll make you care so much you'll have to stop reading our blog because it's like an addictive substance)! Ok, just kidding, there are some fine blogs out there.
Yeah, Gabe is a good friend of mine and he spent time in the past posting in a couple of other blogs. I was an avid reader of those blogs, and I also created a few blogs of my own. They weren't as good as his, so this is kind of a partnership.

Movie discussions all the way, I'd love to talk about film as much as possible. By the way, X-Men 2 looks awesome.

Yeah, there will be some disagreements here and there, so Gabe and I will have few conflicts over taste. When we do, we'll try to make them fun. For that matter, I'll probably come up with a few mock battles... I.E. Who'd win in the ultimate 90's rock fight, Kurt Cobain vs. Billy Corgan?

That's a good top 5. Mine at the moment are, The Casket Lottery, Hey Mercedes, Radiohead, The Smashing Pumpkins and The Firebird Band.

Hellooo!

Meanest guitar player?? If that's in reference to me, it purely denotes my emotional state when playing! I'm Gabe and I'm a friend of Brock's. I had a couple of blogs before (Gabe and Jeremy's Movie Reviews and Speed of Sound). Gave them up because I don't think anyone was reading. There's a SEA of blogs out there. Not that anyone will be reading this but, at least it will be a place for Brock and I to waste time talking about music (I'm sure we'll throw in movie discussions, right Brock?).

There will be a lot of agreement on this here blogger. Brock and I have almost parallel musical and cinematic tastes. But not to worry! Enjoy the different view points and the rare disagreements! In case you're wondering, Eyes Like Static is a lyric from the Jets to Brazil song "I Typed for Miles" from Orange Rhyming Dictionary.

Top 5 bands (of the moment): The Casket Lottery, Audio Learning Center, Small Brown Bike, Hey Mercedes, Dinosaur Jr. Brock, what's yours?

We should have a new blog member any minute now...give him a warm invite folks.

Playwriting

Hey ladies and gentle men, how's it going?

Well, chances are, you've clicked on this blog because the link was updated on the main page, or you just stumbled upon us by some blind chance. Personally, I've always been a fan of accidental discovery, especially when it's in the form of something good. Hopefully, you'll enjoy your new discovery, our blog, and continue to come back for our regular updates. Likewise, as you've probably guessed by reading our description, we're a blog based upon the discussion of music, be it in listening to music, or actually creating music. Currently, I don't play any musical instruments...for the moment. So, chances are I'll be talking about new albums, favorite (or hated) groups and artists and the latest concert I just attended.

Speaking of concerts, fans of the now dead alternative group Sunny Day Realestate should check out the new project, The Fire Theft. A few of the guys behind Sunny-Day have branched out and are now writing and recording new songs for an upcoming album. The new album is being discussed regularly at their website, and new MP3 tracks are posted every now and then to chart the band's musical progression during the creation of this new LP. Accordingly, The Fire Theft has decided to play some shows, so if you're a fan of the music, or just becoming interested in their new works, you should check out their tour schedule to see if they're coming near your area.
The Fire Theft will be showing up down here in tepid Phoenix Arizona in March, so you can be sure I'll be at the show. I'll give you the full scoop the next day. I highly recommend this group to most people...so you might like to check em out, see what they're all about.

So I'm surfing the net (or whatever the new buzz expression is) and I come across the new website for Hey Mercedes, one of my favorite bands. Previously, Hey Mercedes had a very expensive looking and sharp Flash driven website. Perhaps too flashy... But the new website (which coincidently was created by the band's lead singer, Bob Nanna) sports a simplistic HTML design. No Flash, no buzz, no over technical appearance. Like some contorted Metamucil commercial or a lighter toned Kurt Cobain bodily illustration, the website is based upon medical renditions of the human body and its functions. Keen eyes will be able to point out that the links to various sections are shortened nick-name versions of some of the new songs HM has been touting on their recent tour. (Among these are Police - Police Police Me, Revenge - Quality Revenge At Last, and Playing and Fighting - Playfighting) Good work Bob and crew!

Oh right, and finally, Reggie and the Full Effect put out a new album this week, Under the Tray. I haven't bought it yet, but I plan to before the week is out. I'll post what I think about it.

Later,

-Brock
