World Cup Fever!

The excitement level over soccer for the general American public is quite low. Especially when compared to the rest of the world. I for one, have the fever! I need to find a pub...

Who's yer team Gabe?

Can't say I watch soccer for the "yummy" guys.

My team? Naturally, the U.S., and Mexico. Mexico beat Iran today, 3-1. Yessss!

We watched some soccer in France. Sure, it was the only sport on, but it was interesting. I like that they play through, no commercials or breaks. It's sort of like a chess match, a lot of manuvering just for a chance at a strike. I will check it out if I get a chance. Wish I could watch Italy v. US with Marco. That match is Saturday around noon.

I played organized soccer most of my childhood life, and a year in high school, so I'm a bit passionate about it.
I invited Marco over, but he doesn't want to watch the game in fear of embarrassment. He says this Italian team is more worried about their hair then making goals. He may reconsider, though, now that the U.S. got whipped 3-0 by the Czech Republic. :-(

I'm watching the Poland/Germany match right now (it's half-time). Talk about insane emotional tension. Both teams are really into this match. They're showing all of the hooligan arrests on the half-time report right now...lovely.

We need to get together with Marco this Saturday for the Italy/USA match. If Marco only cared for the team this year, it could be an afternoon as interesting as the Patriots/Broncos.

Ugh, I was having a good day until you mentioned Patriots/Broncos.

I caught the last half of Saudia Arabia/Tunisia at lunch. The Saudis went ahead with five minutes left on a breakaway. Then three minutes into extra time the Tunis passed it across the goal and someone skipped a header in to tie it, which is how it ended. Very exciting, I could hardly believe it.

Sorry.

Chase told me about Saudia Arabia/Tunisia today...I would have liked to have seen that.

Germany overtook Poland by scoring the one and only point of the game in the closing minutes of the game. The fight went right out of Poland immediately.

Glad to see you guys getting into it! I've been able to watch most games at my school while I work. ;-)

Yeah, it's kinda fun. You always get hyped up, so I thought I'd try and see what's so interesting about it.

I'm eagerly anticipating tomorrow's match-up between England and Trinidad-Tobago. I saw an article on Yahoo's coverage that said this was Trinidad's first year at the cup (they are the smallest country there) and it may be their last. Most of the team's fans were super depressed that they got paired up against England. But, maybe they can score an underdog victory.
