Climbing

The Nugs have climbed into the eighth, and final, spot of the playoffs with their win over Golden State. Will they fall? They've been climbing and falling all season. They better keep climbing if they want to get anywhere!

And all this talk about MVPs and not a mention of Iverson or Melo!? C'mon, fools! The best scoring duo in the NBA. Number 5 and number 6, respectively, in PPG, RBG, and AST. That's alright. The dusty, old cowtown is used to it. Don't even get me started on the team that's been to six Super Bowls, and just finally got a second member in the Hall of Fame. Pssshh!

I'll be honest...I never considered Iverson or Carmello for MVP. Now here's the rub: they're fantastic players. But I never considered them because they're not really "personalities" like the other names being tossed around. There is a certain kind of "personality" that gets MVP. Kobe, Garnett, Stoudemire and James all have that personality...those two guys don't in my personal opinion. Half of the fun of the MVP is that they play up the "superhero" angle more than the average NBA player. Mello and Iverson are just "gettin' the job done".

My first thought was, "Iverson/Melo for MVP is bunk. They need to get a better record first. Don't be dangling off the edge of the playoffs."

Then I thought, "Man, they're only 5 1/2 games from the best record in the West. What do you want out of these guys?"

So I concluded by thinking, "Iverson is the MVP of press conferences. Let's leave it at this: http://youtube.com/watch?v=FUYjD7A75HQ&feature=related"

When the AI trade happened, everyone was wondering how AI and Melo would co-exist, since they both needed the ball in their hands so much. I've been stunned that it not only has worked out, but that they have essentially found an equilibrium where their stats (particularly their PPG) are nearly identical. It's scary.

Argument against both is that they have bad-boy reputations and they sort of cancel each other out. The Stockton/Malone co-MVP was quite rare, and only really happened because of the point-guard/top-scorer combination. I don't think anything like an AI/Melo-style co-MVP has ever happened.

Now they're in seventh, with Golden State's win over Dallas.
Yes, the West is insane right now.
AI and Melo are superstars, though. Their jerseys sales have been in the top 10. Hudson helped out with that.
I agree part of it is them cancelling each other out. The MVP trend is for someone that stands out, not just in the league, but over their own team too, unfortunately. That, and the cowtown stigma. ;-)

Just remember that the Stockton/Malone co-MVP was in the All Star game. You would never see something like that outside of an All Star game.

How about this Iverson classic? http://youtube.com/watch?v=grXws5m11SA

Ouch! That tough loss to Phoenix last night puts them back on the outside looking in.

Ugh. I watched the whole game. If you're going to blow a 22 point lead, just pack-up and try again next year. They better redeem themselves tonight.

Yeah, that was bad. There are a few teams you just don't give breathing room to...the Suns are one.

My dream scenario would be for Denver to make it and Houston to drop out. Every other team in the mix, I'm interested to see in the playoffs, and that includes Denever. I wouldn't want AI and Melo on the outside looking in. Houston, I absolutely think is boring to watch, boring players, and hasn't done anything in the playoffs for over a decade. Die, Houston, die!

We'll see if it works out that way.

Thank you!

Houston is about as exciting as a trip to Ross.

The Nugs are here to stay, I think...

Well, after being spanked by Utah the night before, they beat Houston last night. If the Suns beat the Warriors tonight, the Nuggets are in. Don't let me down, Suns!

Thank you, Suns! Had me worried for a bit.
