OK, further comment. Pedro the Lion's David Bazan recently started up a new project, Headphones, with no guitars, all electronic, mostly keyboards/synths. You'll be greatly surprised based on my fandom of PtL that I really dislike the new stuff.
It's so predictable. After a couple years in a rock band, these guys always seek an acoustic or electronic project to chill out with for a while, with mixed results usually. And some never make it back to the rock... sadly.
Yeah, I have to say, Headphones is really mediocre. The lyrics are still top-notch PtL quality, but you just cannot get into the music. As a whole, the music and lryics don't work together.
Of course, next up for PtL is doing TW Walsh's album, where he's the front man. That should be intersting. One of my favorite songs on the last PtL album (Start Without Me) was actually written by TW. In fact, I have a TW version in MP3 format (where he sings and plays the music) that is just as good as the PtL version.
I really liked Give Up from The Postal Service. Good stuff.
Thank goodness, I was waiting for Jer to jump in and tell me that I needed to give Headphones a chance, that it would grow on me after a while (since I quickly dismissed Achilles Heel, as well).

Malkmus... don't get me started. :)

Interchangable lyrics. Psaw!
That's too bad about Bazan. I don't think he'll let himself stay way from rock though.
You know Bazan had to do the Gibbard thing. But I only really liked one or two Postal Service songs anyway.
I've been waiting for that Malkmus album.
